I’m not shy about saying how much I love my work, but at the moment my personal project [shadow and light study] is stealing my heart. And this recent session with my class of 2017 senior model, Katie, is the latest reason why! After several experiments with careful metering and exposure in indoor lighting, I wanted to take this project outside and I jumped at the first warm and sunny day that was available! Katie and I trekked to Indian Run Falls, where there are beautiful rays of light peeking through the trees—and also lots of shadows. It was perfect! And so much fun to play with different types of light (diffused, direct, backlighting, even flash!). I love how varied the results are and how much I’m learning with this photographic experiments! I’ve got to get brainstorming the next!

Film fanatics, these images were made on a Hasselblad H1 with a 100mm lens using Portra 400 film (some developed normally, some pushed one stop in development).
