Katherine | shadow and light

Spring is here and that makes me excited to photograph the next class of high school seniors (class of 2017, book soon!!). At the same time, I am really enjoying a couple of personal projects I have on the go. I want to share one of those with you today, as it involves a couple of my favorite high school seniors! This year, I’ve been studying differing types of lighting and metering with film, mostly with still life. But for the latest “experiment”, I wanted to make some portraits. Enter Katherine and Dana (whose lovely images I will share soon)! These portraits are quite different from my usual nature-filled scenes (intentionally), as I wanted the focus here to be the light (and the subject). Isn’t she lovely?

Film fanatics, I used four different stocks and two cameras for this images. Here are the details: images 1-3 Portra 160 and Hasselblad H1, images 4-6 Portra 400 and Hasselblad H1, images 7-8 Ilford Delta 3200 (at 1600) and Pentax 67, and images 9-11 TX 400 and Pentax 67.
